View and BookThe Firs is a friendly, adult-only site set within a five-acre smallholding, conveniently situated in the village of Sling in the beautiful Forest of Dean. The site benefits from easy access to the nearby B4228 road, with the pitching area situated behind a dense copse which offers both security and privacy for visitors. With a plethora of wildlife in the vicinity, including badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, deer, wild boar and garden birds (over 30 species), the site is not suited to pets but this also makes it the perfect place to truly 'get back to nature' and relax and unwind. For the exclusive use of our guests we offer a tourist information room with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, a WC and a secure storage area for cycles.
Located in stunning surroundings, the area is rich with amazing places waiting to be discovered and, whether you are walking or driving, you can take things at your own pace and do as much (or as little!) as you like. Within 0.5 miles are the unique and enchanting Puzzlewood and Clearwell Caves, and the internationally-famous Symonds Yat Rock with its breath-taking views is just 5 miles away. Steeped in history, the area is home to both the Dean Heritage Centre and Hopewell Colliery and, being so close to the Welsh border, there are several historical buildings, including Chepstow and Goodrich Castles and Tintern Abbey, to explore nearby. For the more energetic, there are miles of scenic walks and cycle paths on the doorstep, together with 2 bike-hire centres; within 10 miles there is also canoeing, fishing, a 'Go Ape' activity centre.
Foodies will also not be disappointed as there are 6 pubs and restaurants within 1 mile, the nearest being just a 5 minute walk away and holding the accolade of being the only establishment in the Forest to have been awarded 2 AA rosettes for the quality of its food!
The nearest town, Coleford, is only 1.5 miles away and boasts a Tourist Information Centre, cinema, golf courses, plus a good range of restaurants, cafes, take-aways and shops, including supermarkets, newsagents, post office, chemists, bakeries, butchers, florists, hairdressers, greengrocer, hardware store, petrol station and much more. Doctors' and dentists' surgeries and a police station are also located here. Closer to home is the Corner Stores and Post Office in Milkwall, just over half a mile away and a great little convenience store. Finally, for all maintenance matters relating to touring caravans and motorhomes, and with over sixty years of experience between them, Coleford Leisure is only 2 miles away and Forest of Dean Caravans are less than 5 miles away.
For those who wish to venture further afield, Sling is served by a regular bus service and there is also a train station located 7 miles away in Lydney, providing direct links to Gloucester, Cheltenham Spa, Newport, Cardiff and beyond.
We look forward to welcoming you!
