Young Driver - Chelmer Valley Park & Ride
Teenagers get the chance to start, steer, manoeuvre, reverse and park on a specifically designed road system.
View and BookWelcome to Old Farm, a working sheep farm which has been in the French family for 5 generations.
The site has excellent toilet and shower facilities as well as Electric Hook Up points at each of the five pitches named Gwen, Megan, Bonnie, Roxie and Gem after our five generations of Border Collies. We try to stay open all year round though this may depend on the British climate!! The caravan site has a peaceful meadow position with views over the open countrside where a range of wildlife (including our sheep) can be seen and heard. If you are interested in more exotic wildlife, Colchester Zoo is nearby or for a more hands on experience, the petting farm at White Elm Garden Centre at Bicknacre.
Nearest shops are in Tiptree and Maldon. World-famous Wilkins Jam factory in Tiptree is worth a visit with its cafe and shop. Maldon boasts a range of both supermarkets and many small independent shops, not forgetting the quay and promenade.
If you enjoy a pub meal with a glass or two, The Swan in Little Totham and The Ship in Tiptree are just two local hostelries. The more energetic of you might fancy visiting the swimming pools at either Maldon, Colchester, Witham or Braintree..... or perhaps visit one of the many beaches along the Essex coast including Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the -Naze, Brightingsea, Mersea Island and Southend.
Essex boasts three cities - Chelmsford with its cathedral, Southend with its beaches and seaside entertainments and Colchester with its historic castle. Colchester is also the oldest recorded city in Britain and has a number of historical sites to visit. For those of you who enjoy some retail therapy, Freeport (an outlet shopping village) is close by, Lakeside Shopping Centre is approximately 45 minutes away with Bluewater Shopping Centre just over the border into Kent. There are theatres and cinemas locally at Colchester, Chelmsford, Southend and Braintree.
To really enjoy the countrside, there are several footpaths right on the doorstep of the site including footpaths around Chigborough Lakes Nature Reserve with the nearby Smokery and availability for fishing. There are also nature reserves at Aberton, Fingringhoe as well as others. There are so many places to enjoy within the Essex area that we would suggest most people wouldn't need to travel further afield however there are good road and rail links to London, Kent, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk.
