Maldon has many things to do and see, Thursday is Market Day with lots of independent small shops located in the small alleyways of this lovely old fashioned town. The promenade park is a lovely place to visit, go down the promenade and see the Byrhtnoth Statue. The Battle of Maldon, an early 11th century fragmentary poem which describes the battle, mentions the Panta and tidal causeway which could be the causeway leading to Northey Island. The Saxons were defeated and their leader, Byrhtnoth, was killed.
See the amazing sailing barges with the terracotta sails, an amazing sight in full sail, Beeleigh Abbey and Falls along the lovely walks by the Canal from Heybridge to Chelmsford if you like walking and Langford Water Works on the outskirts of Maldon with lot of wonderful old machines in working order; a wonderful Museum to visit.
