Why stay here ...

The Barn House Retreat CL site is situated towards the Eastern end of the Askers Valley, near to both Eggardon and Shipton Hills. The well-presented and level site is a diversification enterprise for the farm and enjoys a peaceful position behind the main farmhouse. The A35 is 300 meters away along a country road, giving convenient access for larger vehicles.

Just 3 miles west of the site with easy access, parking and a regular bus service is the historic market town of Bridport, close to the old fishing harbour of West Bay, both of which featured in the TV series' Broadchurch and Harbour Lights. Bridport offers essential provisioning from 4 supermarkets, renowned restaurants and bistros and a twice weekly street market. A bus service runs from 350 & 450 metre up on the A35 to both Bridport and Dorchester every couple of hours with links further afield from both towns.

Burton Bradstock Beach which is a National Trust site, is a little further east along the coast, not far is another jewel in the Jurassic Coast, Golden Cap. Further afield are the towns of Lyme Regis, the inner harbour of which, The Cobb, was the location of The French Lieutenants Woman film. Driving along the coastal roads, Weymouth, Osmington and Lulworth are within easy driving distance, or head inland to the market towns of Beaminster, Crewkerne or Sherborne. The county town of Dorchester, the birthplace and home of Thomas Hardy is certainly worth a visit, along with the architectural diversity of King Charles' new Village of Poundbury.

Barn House Retreat has much to offer for leisure activities, situated adjacent to a footpath, which meanders down through the Asker valley, excellent for ramblers or dog walkers. There are 2 public houses within walking distance of the site (closed on Mondays & Tuesday). For our visitors who enjoy cycling, there are pleasant and enticing routes for all levels of experience. Take the valley road to Bridport, via the linear villages of Uploders and Loders and enjoy the patchwork of fields full of crops or livestock, offering everything from a gentle short circular route to a more challenging cardio work out. Accept the challenge riding to the top Eggardon Hill, you will be rewarded with 360 degree spectacular views. For a challenging walk go to the top of Shipton Hill where again 360 degree views towards Charmouth and east to Portland along the coast and inland to Pilsdon Hill and Rampisham Down. As for fishing or seafood, well like much of Dorset, you are in the heart of the countryside but close to the coast you will not find finer opportunities anywhere.

Mobile phone reception is reasonable. Television reception is best with Dish, Modern Aerial or SMART TV taking signal from the free site wifi.

Two well behaved dogs are welcomed per unit. A range of leaflets and maps are available on site from the information cabin or ask the proprietor, who's family have lived, farmed and worked in Dorset for many generations.

A Podpoint 7.2 KW type 2 Car Charger Point has been installed on site and is available for 40p per KW on overnight timed charging. Please mention when booking.

We believe in fair pricing and inclusive costs. Prices quoted include hook-up and unlimited Wi-Fi subject to no network/system outage (code given on arrival) and there are no additional costs for an awning.

However, to reduce our carbon footprint and to keep costs down for everyone, electricity is on a 'fair reasonable use policy' and does not include the heating of awnings using electricity. Each pitch has it's own drinking water tap

To book please telephone or email. Bookings require a non returnable deposit of £5 per night by bank transfer or if short notice payment can be on arrival. Balance payable a day or two prior to arrival or upon arrival via bank transfer if possible. Unannounced guests very welcome, but please ring on the day to check availability.

Excellent Site

Stayed 3 nights in pitch 3. Found the site easy to drive to and access. Only a very short drive off of A35 to the site. The site itself was very clean and maintained, large pitches, and peaceful. The owners were very friendly and nice. Totally recommend!

The best CL we've ever stayed on.

We had a wonderful 12 night stay here this month. We only use the CL network and this site has got to be the best site we've ever stayed on. The owner, Len, keeps the site so clean and tidy. The grass is mown and collected so no grass in the caravan. A... Show more

Dorset Gem

Firstly as Motorhome owners we have a different criteria than Caravaners. We don’t take our Motorhome off site being 7.6 metres though I’m sure some intrepid owners do. Barn House Retreat is brilliant value for money at £22 per night including fair use of electricity. All pitches are hardstanding. Water and Electric on each... Show more
