Bolsover Castle (English Heritage)
Discover lavishly decorated rooms and the astonishing riding school and the wonderfully recreated garden.
View and BookTucked away from the main road, our CL site is situated on a working dairy farm between the hamlet of Hardstoft and the village of Pilsley. The site is just less than 1 acre in size and has 5 level hardstanding pitches, all with individual electric hook ups and water supplies. The site benefits from the sun all day (weather permitting!) due to its orientation - perfect for relaxing breaks. For the explorers, our CL makes access to the Five Pitts Trail easy; the scenic route of this trail crosses the farm drive.
The Five Pitts Trail is a network of surfaced walkways/cycle routes which follows the line of the former coal pit route. Circular pathways loop from this main line to allow access to local towns and villages and beyond. The area has an abundance of coal mining history which can be explored through this Trail. Particularly worthy of a visit is the Williamthorpe Nature Reserve, located near to the village of Heath.
Beyond the Five Pitts Trail, but still within walking distance (approx 3 miles) from the farm is the Elizabethan house, Hardwick Hall. Today Hardwick Hall is owned by the National Trust and boasts countryside walks within the Estate. A day at Hardwick offers fun for all the family with woodland play trails and shops, finished with sweet treats in the cafe. Also located within the Hardwick Estate is Stainsby Mill - an example of a working 19th Century watermill which still grinds flour today. Bolsover Castle is situated 7 miles north east of our CL; the castle is an example of a 17th Century mansion. Bolsover Castle will provide entertainment and educational fun for all the family.
There are also several options for eating out within walking distance of our CL, ranging between 1 mile and 5 miles walking distance from the site.
Whilst our site is located in a quiet rural area, we are situated a short 15 minute drive to the historic market town of Chesterfield. Chesterfield is renowned for its open market - with the Thursday flee market attracting large numbers to the town. As well as the market, the town is home to the famous Crooked Spire. Chesterfield town centre also provides a lively night time atmosphere with two historic theatres showcasing a wide range of live and screened events. If theatre isn't for you, perhaps one of the Chesterfield's evening bars will serve your favourite tipple...
Our CL really does offer opportunities to access a diverse range of activities and interests. For further information, why not take a look at our Facebook page. Alternatively, give us a call - we are happy to have a chat!
We look forward to welcoming you to our site; as we are situated on a working farm however, we ask that children are supervised at all times and dogs are kept on leads when within the site.
