The town of Maryport is located in the English county of Cumbria and is the southernmost town on the Solway Firth. It grew up thanks to coal mining and ship building, but it can trace its history beyond the Roman times.
Visitor highlights include the Maritime Museum and the Senhouse Roman Museum, as well as the excellent Lake District Coast Aquarium.
Families are sure to enjoy The Wave Arts and Sport Centre, which offers the chance to go caving in some mock tunnels.
You can enjoy beautiful views over the Irish Sea from the harbour and walking routes are available along the promenade. There's also a fun trail that follows old smugglers' routes for a bit of adventure.
Maryport has some great places to eat and drink - don't miss the opportunity to sample some really fresh fish for a wonderful dining experience.
