Coniston is a rural village located at the northern shore of the third longest lake in the Lake District.
It is believed that author Arthur Ransome was inspired to base his famous children's' book Swallows and Amazons on locations in the area - and it is easy to see why.
With the backdrop of the famous national park, Coniston appeals to many hill and fell walkers and is a good starting point for a number of challenging, but enjoyable trails.
Rock climbers are also well catered for at the nearby Dow Crag fell, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
