Why stay here ...

Viewforth Meadow is situated amongst farmland on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, positioned on a hill overlooking the town with spectacular views across Teesdale and the North Pennines.

The site is in a large gently sloping field with a recently planted wooded area and a spacious open area for relaxing and enjoying the peace.

Each south-facing grass pitch is separated by trees and shrubs and is spacious enough for an awning, ready for you to enjoy the wonderful views and beautiful sunsets. We advise you to use awning straps if the weather is blustery.

Pitches have electric hook-up points.

Watch out for the resident barn owl, there are also curlews, buzzards and woodpeckers. We have our own hens on site and the fact that we are surrounded by our neighbours’ sheep and horses, we will accept dogs only by arrangement. On site dogs must on a lead at all times.

Viewforth Meadow is ideally based for making the most of such a beautiful area catering for many outdoor recreation activities including walking, golf, cycle routes, sailing, canoeing and mountain biking at Hamsterley Forest which is only 9 miles away.

Barnard Castle offers a range of restaurants, pubs and takeaways, as well as a weekly market, various supermarkets, independent shops and antique shops. Not forgetting Specsavers for those with poor eye sight!!

Places definitely worth a visit include the Castle, Egglestone Abbey, Egglestone Gardens and tearoom, Bowes museum, High and Low Force and Raby Castle.

A local bus passes the entrance to the CL.

If you wish to travel further afield, Richmond, Durham, Beamish Museum, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are all within an hour’s drive.

Price per night inclusive of electricity.

Please leave the site by noon on the day of departure.

We do not offer car charging facilities on site, but there are several locally.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Great for Mountain Biking

A very welcoming reception by Philip. Pitch designation on display board upon arrival. I liked the fact it was a right reverse onto the pitch (drivers side). Leveling blocks should you need them were acailable. My main interest was to visit Hamsterley Forest for a bit of mountain biking.... Show more

January Jewel

Lovely CL that has 5 hardstanding strips, grass margins and hedging. Access is good from either Barnard Castle or Eggleston. Pitches are lined up from the entrance in linear fashion with the service point nearest the entrance gate. Arrived with the last of the January snow lingering. Was... Show more

Gem of a site

What an immaculate, well presented site. A warm genuine welcome from Philip greeted us and we were directed to a great level pitch with extremely easy access to water and EHU. Sympathetic planting of trees and shrubs have created a haven for motorhomers/caravaners and wildlife alike. The site has been... Show more

Beautiful site

This is a beautiful CL. The five pitches are in a row with facilities at one end. The layout for water and waste is one of the best I have seen on a CL. A warm welcome from the owner and then left in peace for our stay. The walk into nearby... Show more
