Sitting on the banks of the River Dane in Cheshire, Congleton is a popular base for those wishing to visit the Peak District.
Known locally as ‘Beartown’, this pretty market town offers a little bit for everyone, whether you love history, shopping or spending time in the great outdoors.
Little Moreton Hall, a Tudor house maintained by the National Trust, features ornate black and white details on the exterior walls, and looks like it's straight out of a storybook. Its interiors have been beautifully restored, and there's also a cobbled courtyard and lovely gardens.
Other highlights of Congleton include Town Wood, Astbury Mere County Park, which is ideal for fishing and sailing, and the Congleton Museum.
