This impressive distillery, founded in 1846 offers an experience you will not forget. This once small wine and spirits merchant is now famously known all over the world and their renowned Scotch whiskey is celebrated and enjoyed all around the globe.

No drink epitomises Scotland like whisky. No whisky made outside of Scotland can call itself Scotch. However, even if you’re not a lover of the spirit, a visit to Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery is a warming experience.

There are three tours to choose from: the Aberfeldy Tour, the Cask Tasting Tour, and the Connoisseur Tour. The tours themselves are similar, the main difference is the amount of whisky offered for tasting.

Each tour starts with an introductory film shown in the most delightful mini-cinema (bring your own popcorn) before a relaxed self-guided mooch around the award-winning Visitor Experience.

What happens next depends on Covid protocols. You might be taken to the warehouse and shown a beautiful film all about the production process. During less restricted times, you’ll be shown the production process for real.

My guide, Gary, could not have been more enthusiastic about whisky. There was nothing he didn’t know about the rich and interesting history of the Dewar family, or the whisky making process. In time-honoured fashion, the tour ends with a tasting – or take-aways for drivers.

It became clear to me that the Dewars Distillery is a place bursting with warming spirit – and not just the distilled kind.
