Enjoy a pair of unforgettable train journeys before embarking on a motorhome adventure in glorious New Zealand

Experience the very best of New Zealand’s North and South Islands on a tour that includes two classic rail journeys, ferry trips across the picturesque Cook Strait – and 19 days on the road in a quality motorhome!

Following your flight, the adventure starts with a hotel stay in magical Auckland where highlights might include a trip to the top of the Sky Tower or a boat ride across the harbour.

You will then board the Northern Explorer long-distance scenic train service. Soak up incredible views of volcanic mountains, snow-blanketed lava flows and dense beech forest as you journey through Tongariro National Park, before finally arriving in Wellington.

The Interislander ferry will then take you across the Cook Strait to Picton on the South Island where options might include a boat cruise on the Marlborough Sounds or a walk on the fabled Queen Charlotte Track.

Now board the Coastal Pacific train which meanders breathtakingly close to the sea on its way to Christchurch. During your five-hour journey you will see craggy cliffs, rocky outcrops, vineyards and farmsteads – and even have the chance to spot seals, dolphins or whales.

At this point, the motorhome section of your odyssey begins. Head westwards to Mount Cook (Aoraki), take in Wanaka’s majestic lake and mountainside setting and visit Queenstown – a great base for an excursion on the awe-inspiring fiord of Milford Sound.

Heading northwards you have the opportunity to see the Franz Josef glacier before a scenic drive takes you alongside the Tasman Sea to Punakaiki and Carters Beach. Abel Tasman National Park is yet another highlight before you board the ferry once again for the North Island. Martinborough is next on the itinerary before you venture further northwards to Napier in the famous Hawkes Bay wine region.

Lake Taupo, the magnificent Huka Falls and the surreal bubbling pools and crevices of the Craters of the Moon await before you make your way to the beautiful, rugged Coromandel Peninsula in the far north. Take a trip to Hot Water Beach, head for Cathedral Cove or simply relax and enjoy the cafes and art galleries before making your way back to Auckland, your final destination.
