Before setting off on your first campervanning adventure, you'll need to choose a campervan which is right for you. There are many types of campervan to choose from, so we suggest reading our handy campervan types guide to help you decide which you'd prefer.
Test-drive a campervan before you buy one
If you need a little more peace of mind before you purchase a 'van, you can hire a campervan through the Club with our Try Before You Buy scheme. Club members save 15% on hire through the scheme, but anyone is welcome to hire through us.
Gaining confidence
It’s really no harder to drive a campervan than it is a car; smaller campervans are very similar indeed. With larger campervans, you'll need to get used to the size and rearwards visibility – you'll need to make more use of your door mirrors!
Before you travel...
Spend some time familiarising yourself with your van, and take it for a test drive before your holiday.
Download our packing checklist and make sure you've got everything you need to ensure your holiday goes without a hitch.
You'll probably find it easier to pack your things in a soft bag like a rucksack or holdall, as these can be easily stored in a campervan.
Training courses
If you want to build up your confidence quickly, we recommend booking a session on our motorhome manoeuvring course – these courses are ideal for beginners and suitable for campervanners.
Get covered
Make sure you have campervan insurance, breakdown cover and road lighting on your vehicle before you set off.

Setting off
Once you're all set for your journey, we suggest hopping out after about 20 minutes and double-checking that everything is still okay. Make sure all your belongings are still secured where you left them.
