The 2025 season opening dates for Nunnykirk Club campsite are currently under review, and we'll provide further information in due course.

Peace and tranquillity reign at the Nunnykirk Club Campsite, making it a haven for wildlife and a bird watcher's dream come true. Those who enjoy hill walking will find the Simonside Hills, located near to the campsite, particularly splendid. They make for a place where you can breathe fresh air, enjoy the space and open countryside all around you, whilst shrugging off the troubles of the everyday world.

All is peace at Nunnykirk Club Campsite and yet this part of England has seen some of the hardest fought border battles in history. If evidence of this was needed, Hadrian's Wall can be found in the south of the county. This Roman site can be visited from the campsite and will be an educational treat for youngsters, and keen walkers will be sure to want to experience the Hadrian's Wall path walk. Indeed you'll find a number of historical attractions a short distance away from many of our Northumberland campsites, giving you plenty of options when heading away. A perfect antidote to modern life, you are sure to return from your break refreshed and revitalised.

Beautiful site, But .........

Nunnykirk Club Campsite
This site is in a quiet and idyllic location. It is in a beautiful setting bounded by trees and streams. There is no toilet or washing facilities but there is a very good walk adjacent to the site. We had a seasonal pitch for 2023 and we met some very nice and friendly people during the season. Generally, we really enjoyed our stay. However, the site is a mess, the grassed areas was kept far too long, and the streams which could be one of the sites main features are completely hidden from sight by overgrown weeds and knee high grass. The site entrance is a disgrace and there are also areas of knee-high grass and weeds that were referred to as biodiversity areas by the Wardens. They were supposed to be for wildflowers but are again just a mess. Most people complained about the state of the site. I have read reviews that say the Wardens are friendly and helpful, they absolutely weren’t. They had very poor people skills and seemed determined to upset everyone by their belligerent attitude. I can only think that these reviews were referring to the Relief Wardens who were genuinely lovely, friendly people who the full-time Wardens could have learned much from.

Quiet site

Nunnykirk Club Campsite
Quite, pretty site surrounded by trees. As advertised, there are no toilet facilities, but it is clean, well maintained with plenty of waste disposal points. I was pitched at the far end of the field from the entrance and excluding the odd motorbike there was no road noise. A majority of the pitches are seasonal. My phone uses the O2 network and I had no issues with basic internet access. Even if you do not have a dog, do try the dog walk. It is a pleasant stroll between woodland, and small meadows, close to the river at times, with the sun streaming along the valley in the evening. It is an old lane, though most of the tarmac has now gone, leaving an easy walk along the compacted road base of stones etc. It's a mile to the first house and then another three quarters of a mile to the next road. From where other footpaths lead off, though I didn't try them. Although it is possible to walk up the B road by the entrance to footpaths, the road (though quiet) has several sharp bends and when I reached the footpaths south of the site they were overgrown and tough to walk along. Basically you need to use a car to do anything from this site. Great walks at Simonside, either up to the crags or a more gentle stroll around the iron age hillforts. Or drive and walk round Fortburn reservoir (pay and display) or park at Greenleighton Quarry and walk for free. Rothbury is worth a walk round and as well as fresh food there, the petrol station at Thropton has a mid sized supermarket with a great selection of local produce at fair prices, including a butcher. Petrol sensibly priced for a remote location.

Hidden Gem

Nunnykirk Club Campsite
Lovely site, friendly site managers, tv reception good (no need to extend aerial) mobile signal good, mobile Wi-Fi good. We returned to Nunnykirk after 25 years away and it hasn’t changed other than all pitches now have EHU. If you are looking for a quiet site with lots of walking and cycling then this is the place. Facilities are minimal but as most caravans / motor homes have onboard facilities then this shouldn’t be an issue. The site is well looked after by the site managers and the grass pitches well maintained.

Disappointing

Nunnykirk Club Campsite
Pleasant enough remote location. Anything away from the site requires a significant drive. The only facilities are water, toilet disposal and bins. In summary, it’s a series of fields with a lot of caravans near a stream. Mystifying to us why it’s a Club Site. I actually thought it was a CL, which is what it amounts to apart from the number of units permitted.

Peaceful setting.

Nunnykirk Club Campsite
This site is hidden away down country lanes and it essential to use the routes suggested. We used the one in the sites book rather than the one on the website and it looked far better but care is needed. The entry is on a single track road with only one passing place which cannot be seen round the bends and could do with improvement. The site itself is a minimum facilities site with almost no external noise and totally peaceful if that is what you want. Plenty of room between pitches. There are numerous places to visit in the area though and plenty of walks so is good for either. There are no facilities and possibly not a site for children though. Perfect for those who like peace, walking or visiting local tourist sites. There are a few shops in Rothbury, but not a lot of choice there, so possibly it is as well to bring your own food if you can. My o2 phone had no signal most of time, but my wife's on 3 did work, a cable is needed for TV although we lived without and did not miss it. If it suits you it is perfect and cheap.
