Warden spoiled our stay

Just spent the weekend at Uttoxeter Racecourse site to find the new warden this year to be very obnoxious. The wardens last year were very welcoming but this year not so. As a keen aerial photographer (I use state of the art drone equipment had the correct training and insurance along with being an model aircraft instructor) last year I got some lovely footage of the site that we have been visiting for years as a hub to take our two children to Alton Towers (posted on the Caravan Club Facebook and liked by an admin). I sent this footage to the then wardens who loved the fact that this footage promoted this site and showed how well they kept the site. This year the warden went out of his way to make sure I could not do the same again and came back to me almost every time I came out of my caravan to tell me off as if I was a school child (I’m 41). The toilets were a disgrace to the Caravan Club the floor was covered in hair (the not head variety) and when my wife and daughter went to have a shower they discovered that the shower doors could be unlocked from the outside. We have been club members for 10 years and have never experienced this “service” before needless to say we will never stop at the Uttoxeter site again. Sorry for the rant and this does not reflect the excellent standard of Caravan Club sites we have stopped at across the UK in the past but maybe the the Wardens in charge? But I feel this needed to be said as it seemed apparent by the lack of caravans/motorhomes on site that rather than come over with the attitude he did continuously he never once asked my family or I how our stay was. We left with my 10 year old in tears wondering what we had done so wrong.

Wouldn't he let you fly your drone? Oh Dear, How Sad. Never Mind

Did you ask the warden why you couldn’t fly the drone? It might be a racecourse stipulation.

Did you raise the issue of dirty shower floors with the warden?

If the answer to the above questions is 'no', then why not? If the answer is 'yes' and you are still not happy, have you contacted the club about the issues?

I think you will find all toilets and showers can be opened from the outside when locked. It’s a safety measure.

I certainly would not want anybody flying a drone over me or my gear.

When I went on my commercial drone pilots course a couple of years ago I seem to recall from the section on Air Law that you must have the land owner or their agents permission to take off and land.  If the agent, in this case the warden, does not give you permission to take off or land from the site then tough.

There is also the small formality of legal compliance with the bit  of not flying the drone within 50 metres of people or structures over which you have no control (30 metres when taking off or landing).

Hmm, caravan site, people, racecourse, buildings - no wonder the warden said no. Thanks, OJ, that’s very informative.

Don't agree with ' Pau 15' and his review on this superb site, my wife and self have stopped on this caravan site many times including three times during 2018, never ever have we found a problem with the toilets here, in fact if you turn up before 12 midday you'll find them both cleaning the Ladies & gents toilets and have to wait until finished every day. As for flying his toy, I wouldn't wish this thing to be flying around the site with thousands on pounds worth of cars & caravans never mind the safety of caravaners, also horses are sometimes out cantering, hope your toy has insurance to cover the damage caused for any accident. Our congratulations go out to the Wardens on Uttoxeter racecourse, well done.
