The most bizarre site I’ve ever stayed in

Don’t know where to start really. The pros, nice toilet block, location to Yarmouth sea front good and then we move onto the Cons….. It’s in the middle of a horse racing track. The horse racing buildings look like the should have bee pulled down years ago (nature may hopefully get this job done.). The all grass pitches were bone dry and yellow. Not sure why but i would be careful with any kind of BBQ. Groups of people on the other side of the site had their 6 panel windbreak between their 2 outfits yet no one on site seemed to be bothered about this. We also had security guards on the main gate which not only made leaving and arriving a chew on but also kind of made it feel like a prison camp. Probably to keep the non stop speeding motorbikes that you hear all night from coming in creating a speedway for them selves.Again the site staff said nothing about why they were there. Caravan club sites are expensive and this site was far from worth any kind of money paid. Charge big ,provide big ! Come on CAMC sort this out.

Busy site, pitches undulate - levelling ramps essential, a lot of road noise at night particularly motorbikes racing on the front. Close to the beach

This is a busy site on the outskirts of Great Yarmouth close to Caister. The site itself is in the centre of the horse racing course and when races are on the site staff sell half price tickets, some aspects of the races can be seen briefly from some of the pitches, my pitch was adjacent to the 1 mile 5 furlong point. There were 2 race meetings whilst I was on site, the first I stopped in the caravan for and only saw the starts of 2 races because most races start further around the course, on the second day I purchased a half price ticket from the site staff and went onto the course with my camping chair - I had an excellent afternoon. Ive not been on a site like this before, there is just 1 circular road around the site and the pitches are doubled up on the grass, no hardstandings. On my visit most of the grass was dead and areas were bare soil, if there was heavy rain this could prove interesting! The pitches undulate and I needed my levelling ramps for side to side levelling and had to adjust the nose of the caravan right down to make it level, I had difficulty with my air awning fitting and the pegs at the rear pulled out on a windy day but I had no issues from this. Its 15 minutes walk from the pitches to the sea, the walk goes through dunes and the beach was spotlessly clean and empty - no toilets. The site facilities were fine, I noticed that the showers had a good film of limescale on them and one shower I used was very noisy. Its a distance from some pitches to the electric bollards, my cable had to be fully unwound. I was unable to use wifi because I was out of range, despite being a small site I could only pick up a signal at the reception. Because pitches are doubled up or more, if you have a pitch on the outer circle and a large outfit then pitches on the inner circle you may have a bit of fun exiting your pitch when you depart, I was fortunate that my own escape route was blocked but the campers were obliging and cleared some of their clutter to give me a route around to the road. I was regularly disturbed at night by noisy cars and particularly motorbikes, there is a nearby dual carriageway and the promenade road is also close by for a noisy exhaust. For golfers there is a golf course adjacent to the site. I'm not sure if I will be returning to this site, there's a lot of CL's in the area that might be a bit more peaceful although I did enjoy the racing.

Well impressed with this Site. The Staff were friendly and helpful upon arrival and sorted us with an excellent spot. Facilities are clean, well maintained and a credit to the Team. We had a great time on site and visiting Great Yarmouth. Highly recommend, and we will certainly be back. Might even take in a race next time.

Very Friendly staff and great location

Easy check in process, even with race meeting going on. The couple who checked us in were very friendly and helpful, providing advise on best pitches and places to go locally. The actual campsite was lovely, very level and it was a bonus to be next to the track whilst a meeting was on and to actually feel the horse go past - great atmosphere. The next day there was no meeting and the campsite was beautifully quiet and was interesting watching the racecourse being tended to. Would definiteley stay here again.

Tired.

Second time at this site. Toilets and showers immaculate. The campsite itself is very uneven and bare in places. So uneven in places the wife fell and needed trip to A&E. Suspected cracked rib. Can't work out why they keep going round on the mower..and no shop. C/Club seem to stick to this 1.00pm arrival time even when the site is only 20% occupied. Bit too regimental. All in all not bad but afraid won't be making the long trip again.

Good BUT. . .

Customer service is poor: I booked 3 nights which required full payment which surprised me as I thought I expected to pay a deposit but whatever. Arrived on the afternoon of the first night to be criticised that I’m late – I was expected the day before, that they stayed late waiting and criticised further that I hadn’t left my phone number so they could call me.

Not put off by this charm(less) offensive. I said Im sure I’ve the correct date – seems I was wrong and Id booked according to their online calendar and got the wrong day.

Accepting it was my error I said “OK, but surely they can put right the error”. After all the site is less than ½ full so they haven’t lost any business. The lady attempted this on the computer but was rejected. When she tried to alter the dates she said I need to pay a further £40!

Absolutey NO WAY! Ive paid £60 for 3 nights that’s tuned to 2 nights, now you want me to pay £40 for another??? Her colleague then suggested instead just satay the 2 remaining nights and then add 1 more separately for £19.90

She then said jokingly “I bet you wont come and stay again will you?”

Her attitude wasn’t encouraging so said I‘ll decide later.

The club or the site manager could have made a choice to say stay for the 3rd night at no extra fee. I wasn’t there on night 1 so I haven’t used any water/electricity, haven’t cost them anything in site costs, wages or management fees. Haven’t lost business by turning another customer away.

Instead try to rip me off with a double charge. I travel around a lot and post recommendations & opinions on the many motorhome groups I’m on. The C&MhC & their site staff have not done themselves any favours.

Two night stopover.

Nice site within walking distance of beach and River Bure Park. Immaculate and plentiful facilities. The surface is rather uneven, so take a torch as most of the bollards are unlit and it is almost a dark-skies area! When they are watering the race-course the machine is quite nosy- tractor engine/pump running and the giant hose-reel is like a power hammer, however it’s probably a fairly infrequent process, we were unlucky.

Perfect for all

Perfect location for the races, beach, and town. There’s a bus or land train stop close by for easy access into the town. Peaceful, even on the morning before the races. Plenty of toilets and showers, nice flat pitch, and a friendly welcome and check-in; we really enjoyed our stay; thank you!

What has happened to this site?

We have brought our children and then grandchildren to this site for many years and always loved it. This year,in August, the site has lots of empty pitches and very few children for our grandchildren to play with. We thought this strange but perhaps due to cost of living issues. We spent a lot of time off site so didn't realise the actual problem for a few days, when we were subjected to the most horrendous noise untill 11.30 pm. The racecourse is watered at least once a day, not by towing a sprinkler round the course but by parking a running tractor, which then tows the sprinkler. The towing device makes a noise similar to hammering an anvil at 1 second intervals. Impossible to even think let alone sleep. Resigned to having to put up with the noise, which is nothing to do with the site wardens We thought we would go out as much as possible. However, when using the male toilet block the next morning I found someone had voided their bowels on the floor of the toilet cubicle. We will not be visiting again, though the wardens are lovely. The site is unusable.

Oh Dear…….

So we arrived 10 minutes early so waited until nearly 1pm before approaching the site office, there was no closed sign and there was someone in the office so I went in, well what a greeting “We are closed” the lady abruptly informed me, it was 3 minutes to 1pm. She then informed me that “1pm is 1pm”. So I waited outside quietly fuming. The site is ok, the ground is very rough and not pretty. Lois and showers are good. 7.30pm we found out there is a car race track up the road and the noise was horrendous until 10.30pm, couldn’t sit outside and even in the van with doors and windows closed it was very noisy, you can’t walk your dogs on the race track and we were told only 2 metres long lead. Then to top it off the race track staff were out at 8.00am strumming around all the fence posts around the track, then out came the site lawn mower, only good thing about this place was the location near the beach. Will not be going back
