Great family location

We recently stayed at Durham Grange and enjoyed every minute of it. Finding the site is really easy it`s straight off the A1 with no tricky roads to negotiate so if your new to towing this is ideal. Upon arrival the greeting was warm and welcoming the site is laid out well with a lot of hard standing pitches available. The facilities are really clean and well kept as you would expect. The children's play area is a good size with a choice of toddler play equipment and older kids play equipment. The site was very peaceful, but as other reviewers have picked up you can hear the A1 with being so close but it was`nt an issue. The only reason I never gave 5 Stars is near the play park there is a bend in the road which is the only place without speed bumps and to my surprise the older generation saw this as an opportunity to speed up above the 5 mph speed limit. All in all though a really good site that I will be happy to visit again and again.

Good stopover

Have used this site for a long weekend and as a stopover. Excellent for both as close to A1 and well placed for Durham. Good for children as there is a play area, which keeps them happy. Close to Beamish which is worth visiting. Facilities spotless when we were there on our last two visits. (February midterm and Good Friday)

Loved Durham

April '15 First time to this part of the country and we really loved Durham. Enjoyed viewing the cathedral, had a wonderful riverside walk with superb views of the cathedral and castle and some interesting shops in the city. Must recommend the Lebanese restaurant, we had a 2 course lunch for £10 each and enjoyed the new taste sensations. The following day, we drove to Barnard Castle to the Bowes Museum. Please note that by showing your Caravan Club membership card, you can get two tickets for the price of one; a great improvement on free children (which we don't have) and we enjoyed the day viewing Old Masters, fascinating pottery artwork, a bejewelled mouse, an automaton swan and a fashion exhibition showcasing the use of feathers in fashion. Stunning pieces. ALERT an Yves St Laurent exhibition is to be shown later this year. There was a lot of traffic noise at Durham Grange as the site is just off the motorway junction and if we were to return to the area (there are more sights to be seen) we would probably try the site at Barnard Castle. Still we had a lovely 3 night stay, thank you and it helped break the journey between Northumberland and Cornwall.

Good as ever.

Visit April 2015. This was our first time back for about three years and happy to say nothing seemed to have changed. The site is easy to find just off the motorway but traffic noise was never a problem. The site itself is largely flat with a mix of hard standings and grass pitches and has a single well kept modern toilet block. The wardens were pleasant and helpful. The park and ride for Durham is the other side of the motorway and the downside is that it is probably safer to drive as crossing the motorway on foot is not easy. For food a Tesco is nearby and the fish and chip van calls on Friday but rather late as it visits Whitewater Park first. When we were there a Pizza van called on the Saturday for the first time and the pizzas were very good. An asset if it keeps going. The site is good as a touring base but also will work well as an overnight stop for those needing one when heading further North or South.

Good site

Stayed one night (Motorhome and two adults £25.60) – parked nearest point to A1(M) but heard no noise and slept like a top. Despite heavy rain the site seemed to drain well. The single file path from the site to the River Wear was very muddy, wellies or walking boots required, but should be more manageable in the Summer – the less mobile will have problems walking the riverside path to Durham. Video of arrival and departure from Durham Grange site – apologies for the poor quality video picture - https://youtu.be/qlVT2VhtlDM

Great site to explore from!

Very easy site to find and get onto. Very clean as expected, and reception was friendly and helpful, again as expected - Thanks for your efforts! Where we were towards the A1 side of the park, there was noticeable traffic noise through the night, but not enough to put us off coming back. The kids play area is great. And it is a great base to explore from! I'm sure we will be back (especially as the Alnwick castle and Beamish tickets last for a year!)

Three days at Durham

Easy to get to site not as noisy as we expected have spoken to others and read reviews. Well situated next to the A1 with easy access to The sites of Durham City both via the park and ride and by town centre car parking. Site could do with more dog waste bins and toilets/showers are showing their age compared with other CC sites visited. Will use again as a stop off point to destination north.

Good Location

Stayed for 4 days clean and well matained site, friendly wardens. Second time of going, park and ride so close is good, take your time crossing the roads, it was not a problem but if you have differculty walking it could be, but if you have use of a car then it's easy. Love Durham.
