We arrived in the early afternoon and luckily there were no other vanners coming out of the site so we were able to navigate the narrow cobbled roadway to the site. The wardens were very welcoming and gave us all the advice about the site and the area. The facilities on the site were very good and kept spotless. There was a fair on opposite the site when we arrived but it was their last night so the noise wasn't t bad. The Brown Cow pub is just outside the site gates. We went there on our last night and the beer was good but the steak left a lot to be desired! We went to Bury market on the Wednesday, it was really good. Overall we enjoyed the stay and would recommend the site.
Having stayed a number of times at this very peaceful site due to the location of our daughter and grandchildren in Bury, I felt that I ought to provide some feedback as to our experience. We started caravanning in October 2014, having bought a reasonably priced 1999 Bailey Pageant Auvergne. Burrs Country Park was the first place we visited.
We enjoyed our experience with caravanning so much, we upgraded to a 2013 Valencia in August this year and have been back to Burrs on several occasions.
The welcome from the stewards, the cleanliness of the site and facilities are a credit to the caravan club. There are scenic walks around the area and the Bury shops and market only a mile away. The Brown Cow pub is approximately 100 metres from the site and has a good selection of ales and reasonably priced food.
Having stayed a couple of times, I thought I ought to provide a review of what I think is an excellent facility that more than meets the standards I have come to expect from the Club. Reception was friendly and informative and I was allowed to find my own pitch. This was bang on level and handily placed for facilities. These were modern and immaculately maintained. Everything [ including laundry] that I hoped for was there.
Access is a bit of a bind -- a long cobbly bit after a narrow street or two of housing - made for slow but not particularly demanding progress.
A steam railway runs along the edge of the park -- not any irritation -- no trains at night -- just the pleasure of watching some of the beauties of a byegone age from the comfort of your own van.
Handily enough placed for Greater Manchester and Lancs cities. I now know there is enough here to justify a longer stay. Given its location beside a railway in the what a rural Scot like me regards as slap bang in the middle of the industrial North West, I found it really quite rural and peaceful.
There is a pub about 100 yards from the entrance and although it seemed like a tied house or a chain pub the ale was good and the food [I had fish, chips and mushy peas for £8.00 odd] good value for money -- home made chips, freshly prepared fish.
Stayed for one night and found the staff very friendly and very helpful, and the site was very clean and well maintained and is in a nice location with a nice pub nearby, easy access to bury or manchester city centre by tram from bury, and there is a nice park nearby. It cost about £4 by taxi to bury town centre and took about 5min to get there, I will definately be back again.
just spent the weekend here ,as I needed to take my camper for a good run out as it has been off the road with some problems ,so chose this site as it's a good run down the motorway from me and as I have been several times so know it well ,to my horror there was a funfair in the country park ,the noise from this was horrendous ,it vibrated round the site but thankfully not go on late ,but alas the park was unsuitable for dog walks as it was all churned up ,I have informed the caravan club about this so they can get info on these events as the warden told me there had 2 circuses in the summer ,then they can post it on the website so we all know about it and avoid the site if we so wish ,I not have children so these events are of no interest to me so wouldn't go if I was aware they are on
Compact and tidy site, well cared for by the attentive wardens. Free fresh herb garden is a nice touch. No play area on site, but play areas in the adjacent country park. East Lancs Railway runs alongside the site, so great for the transporters of all ages. Some noise from the pub by the entrance on the first night when they had live music, but finished st a reasonable time so not a problem really.
After travelling hundreds of miles this year we decided on going close to home. Pleasantly surprised that such a great site was so close to us. Toilets and showers spotless, some of the best yet. Good pitch with the railway behind us, great to watch the steam train passing. Plenty of walks near by and nice, easy walk into Bury (about 40 mins). Market day Wednesday, well worth a visit. We'll be back????
