Excellent site

I pitched on the new section of the site – although the entire site is fairly new. The new section is bright, fresh and has a wonderful open aspect and really big pitches, in width at least, with lots of space between them. The site is very well kept. There’s no sense of being hemmed in here such as I tend to get on so many sites. Some trees have been planted and these will grow to reduce the open aspect, but I do not think this has been overdone as is so often the case. The older part of the site had a much busier appearance and I was very pleased to be on the newer section. The loo block was lovely too. On arrival one is made to read a notice about CCTV watching for speeders! Rather patronising, I felt, but it made no difference - most still transgressed, some alarmingly! I had a serviced pitch. It was rather expensive I thought but it was a really good big pitch, good and flat, with everything on one tidy bollard – water, neat drain, electric and TV – the latter being arguably the best TV reception I have ever experienced. I rely on 4g so I did not test the Wi-Fi. My only niggle, and it is a minor one, is that, despite being very wide, the pitches are not as deep as they might be notwithstanding that there is acres of room behind them. They could have been a metre or so deeper. I accept there would be additional cost to this, but it would have been marginal, surely, and I just can’t figure this out. My motorhome is biggish at 7.77 metres but there are many bigger. I was told to leave two feet behind my van (something I can’t recall being instructed to do before) and that meant only about a foot of free space between the front of my van and the road. This makes one feel slightly vulnerable and a bit tougher for others to swing their van onto opposite pitches. I prefer to be snug to the back of my pitch if it means a bit more room up front. The location is good – although some distance outside Bridlington itself. There is an hourly bus service to Bridlington (or Flamborough and North Landing the other way). I would not describe this site as being great for cyclists; very much average with busy roads around and very limited dedicated provision. There is a paved cliffside path into Bridlington although accessing this requires about a mile on the busy roads first. In the direction towards Flamborough the path is very narrow and unpaved and only really suitable for walkers. Dogs were in astonishing abundance here during my stay. I sometimes think the CMC and the Kennel Club should merge; their objects and values often seem so similar! Not to be mistaken, I really like well-behaved dogs too, as owners I met will testify, and only my work prevents me having one or two myself; but I’d work hard to train them so that they were not a nuisance to others and if, at any time, they were a nuisance to others, I’d have the decency to apologise for that rather than make it seem like it was the fault of the sufferer!
