Brilliant CL, lovely owners
Stayed at Gamrie Bay for the last week of July, with some fellow motorhoming friends. Well laid out site on different levels and largely flat pitches. We were on the far right hand one so needed blocks just on one side. Serviced pitches with EHU/Fresh and Grey. Chemical waste and re-cycling very close as well.
Linda and Michael were great hosts, very friendly and welcoming. We love walking, so it was a challenge for us on 2-3 occasions to walk down (and back up from) to the beautiful harbour at Gardenstown, which is a delightful fishing village. The Community Cafe (Harbucks!) served great coffee and pancakes, and was mobbed at around 2pm when it opened, as we had great weather. All proceeds go to various good causes like the playgroup, the village hall and the harbour fund. Eli's cafe was also fabulous. The Garden Arms did a brilliant Buger called the Balmoral Burger, huge, with bacon, cheese onions, haggis, balck pudding and.....a burger! What a feast. We walked to Crovie (and back!) drove to Pennan (Local Hero) and had coffee and cakes at the Coastal Cuppie on the harbour, and visited RSPB Troup Head on the way back. Also drove to Fyvie Castle (NT) which was well worth the tour.
Bus services are very limited and expensive. We paid £21 per couple, return, to Banff (8 mile journey). Banff is also worth the visit with the Harbour, Castle, Duff House and the amazing Spotty Bag shop (which sells everything and has a nice cafe.
Our caravan Neighbour, John, who has a lobster boat in the harbour, was really friendly and helpful, and saved us from a soaking on our way back from the Garden Arms. He saw us walking and gave us a lift. 15 minutes later we had the most amazing storm, and would never have made it back to site in time! So, thanks John, and Linda and Michael fro being such lovely hosts. We had pretty good weather, spending every day in shorts and t-shirts, so that made the scenery even better. Chris & Carolyn
