We have just come back from a short break here (en route home) and have booked a week in August. Great views and a level hardstanding pitch with its own water supply. We visited Barnard Castle (Bowes Museum) which we very much liked - we took the long way round over Alston (what a road that is.....). Will go into the Lakes next time. Owners are nice and helpful.
Despite caravanning for eleven years we hadn’t tried a CL until now. Can’t believe we haven’t before! Absolutely stunning location overlooking the farmland. Warm welcome as we arrived. Pitch hard standing and fully serviced with a toilet available on the site. There are excellent recycling facilities, an abundance of walks locally, including Appleby itself which is half an hour walk. Such a pretty and peaceful location, many thanks to the lovely owners.
This was one of our favourite sites from last year and a second visit did not disappoint. The views are beautiful, there are local walks and the welcome from Val and her family is very warm. This time we walked into Appleby from the site and managed to find our way back over the fields. We will return again.
Everything about this tranquil site suited us. We were warmly welcomed, the views are fabulous and the serviced pitches are generous and well laid out. The access to the site is easy. There is lots to do in the area and I have no doubt we will return. This really is one of the best sites that we have used.
This was our first winter trip and was unsure what to expect out of season. We had no need to worry, Val and Andrew were superb hosts always at hand for any questions or help finding our way around Appleby. We experienced one particularly windy night and was worried that our awning would take off, but Andrew let us use one of his sheds to store our equipment prior to the storm arriving. Nothing was too much trouble and we are looking forward to our next visit in March.
A lovely peaceful location with beautiful views and ideal for sightseeing around Cumbria.
We stayed here for 3 nights in early September, and were not disappointed. The site is very well laid out and did not feel at all crowded (as some CLs do). The pitches are spacious, and all have their own water tap and grey waste drain. Also, something that I don't usually highlight is the chemical waste point - It is one of the best designed and cleanest I have seen on any CL.
The site is on high ground, so the views over the surrounding countryside are superb. There was no on-site information about local walks, but with the aid of a decent map it was easy to create our own walking routes direct from the site.
The small town of Appleby is worth a visit, and a walk along the river is very pretty. The walk/amble along the road into Appleby from the site took about 30 min, and the return walk over the fields and footpaths took a bit longer, but was very pleasant and a lot quieter. Definitely worth another visit sometime in the future.
Loved this site, can't praise it enough
Warm, friendly welcome with guidance onto pitch
Beautiful uninterupted views for miles around
Grandkids loved the chickens that roamed the site and also the cows and sheep that occupied the field adjoining our pitch
Very spacious serviced pitch with easy access
Well maintained toilet disposal point
Good TV reception
This site has a WOW factor. It is set a couple of miles from Appleby town centre with stunning views over the countryside. You get a very warm welcome from the owners, Andrew and Val, who are both very knowledgeable of the local area, giving great advise. We had initially booked for eight nights, however with this being such a peaceful and tranquil site we booked another nights stay. We would highly recommend this site and will be visiting again.

Just returned home after a three night stay at Crofts End Farm. We received a very warm welcome, as usual, and were shown to our pitch and given all the relevant info including matters relating to Covid and disposal of waste. The views from the pitch were stunning, and the pitch itself was more than ample and level so no ramps required. Found it very nice to have fresh water and waste water drain on the pitch. Toilet spotlessly clean and site immaculate. Short walk (about 30mins) takes you into Appleby with the usual mix of shops and cafes. We found the locals to be very friendly and helpful. We had a good walk up to High Cup Nick, and if you park in Dufton village car park (toilets available which again were immaculate) its just over eight miles there and back. All in all a very enjoyable stay and we hope to return later In the year to take the alternative route up to High Cup Nick.
This site on paper is everything we look for when we are looking for places to stay, sadly I cannot pin point why I didn't like it but i felt a little disappointed. Our welcome onto site was straightforward, we were shown our pitch and told there was no bins due to covid, were handed a bin bag and told to take any recycling to Appleby to dispose of!. No other site we have visited has dispensed of their bins and we also had a pile of dog poo bags on our pitch as there wasn't even a facility to get rid of them either on site or out and about. We noticed other dog owners doing the same. Our pitch wasn't level and even using ramps, we couldn't get right. We had a high hedge on one side of us and sadly the views everyone talks about were obscured by the empty bin storage facility and other units. Looking at the other pitches, they were much better placed for the views. The pitches were fully serviced and enormous, very much a positive for the money. The roaming hens were delightful to watch from the van. Plenty of walks from site but the lanes were quite busy and traffic fast moving. The many off road footpaths were either well overgrown or through fields with livestock in them and I will not use these as dogs and cows with there calves are not a good mix. Access to the site was easy and the site is very popular and reasonably priced. Nearest town is a good walk, 30/40 minutes but with no pavements so not ideal. Didn't observe any public transport in the close vicinity either. There is a train station at Appleby however. This site is perfect for those who tow as they can use their cars to get around the area or for 1 night stopovers maybe.
