would not go anywhere else

Always loved this site as its ideally located for Colchester and surrounding villages with good access to fast road to Clacton, Frinton etc In recent years its been significantly upgraded with now 2 toilet/showers which are immaculate. The site is flat and seems bigger than it is due the beautiful trees and surrounding fields come and see for yourself

Perfect!

Stayed here for one night on Sunday 28th July while visiting relatives in Colchester. It was just the perfect place! We were in a camper van so no problem turning in and lots of space in the field despite three other caravans/motor homes. It was very peaceful too. The shower and toilet block were clean and just the job! Kat was lovely and welcoming and chatted to us about local walks and it was a nice touch to receive an email today thanking us for our stay and wishing us a pleasant onward journey! Definitely recommend this site and will return for a longer stay in the future.

July 2019

What an absolute gem, found almost by accident. We just used this CL as a stopover to break our journey, so only stopped for one night, but we'll definitely be back for a longer stay. As said before, it's a bit of a tight turn in to the site but otherwise, easy to find and no problem getting on the the pitch as we'd been given the access code for the padlock. Good clean facilities, with 2 loos / showers for the 5 pitches. A reasonable £1 for 10 minutes shower time, on top of a very reasonable £12 pitch fee including EHU makes this CL exceptional value. The owner was very welcoming and extremely helpful - even providing a laminated map showing some lovely walks direct from the site. One thing to remember is that both owners work full-time so don't expect the showers/loos to be cleaned during the day - but that does mean that they're not closed for cleaning just when you're packed up and ready to leave, which can always be a problem on bigger sites! The pitch was grass, which was in lovely condition and the 5 pitches are well spaced out, giving privacy and lots of space. All in all, probably the best CL that we've stayed on, both for value and for situation / amenities.

Have a good break here.

This is a lovely level site with a great toilet/shower block. One of the great advantages of using this CL is that Colchester's Park & Ride facility is only 2.6 miles away. Parking in Colchester is an expensive nightmare! If we are ever in the area again we shall certainly use this little gem. We wish Ties and Kat all the best with their wonderful little site.

HIGHLY RECOMENDED

If you stay at this little BoxtedCL site you won't be disappointed as it has a charm all of its own. We have witnessed continuous improvements by Ties and Kate the lovely young couple who now run the site who are very friendly, welcoming, hardworking and forward thinking. I would say that once the toilet/shower block is upgraded for the new 2019 season (although it is presently clean and adequate and a nice sort of rustic) the site to my mind will be perfect. What we particularly like are the spacious pitches, pleasant views, and easy access to Colchester, north Essex, south-east Suffolk and the coast. There are so many places to visit and things to do for all age groups and a trip to the local garden centre will find you a lovely cafe/eatery for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea etc. particularly handy if you just don't fancy cooking or just want a coffee and a good chat (cafe closes @ about 4pm) So if you're wishing to visit the Colchester area and particularly Constable Country I would wholeheartedly recommend this BoxtedCL site :)

Just the ticket!

Once through the gate this proved an ideal site for us. The turn from the road and back onto it is a bit tight with the van on the back and Essex locals are not renowned for their patience but the site itself is exactly right for us. We loved the horses in the next field, the weather was very kind, Colchester town was a couple of miles away and the owners were friendly without being intrusive. It would have been nice to walk the dogs in the adjacent field rather than round the field. Well be back.

Good value

We stayed there back in July and although very good value at £10 a night,it makes this review harder to write as Ella was a lovely lady and the grass was kept well mowed, surrounding area was lovely. The problem we found was Ella's dog Barney was using the campsite to use as a loo and as we were the only other dogs owners there we found ourselves explaining to other campers that it was not our dog mess that was not being picked up. We did let Ella know that this was happening and she said that she would keep an eye on him but she still did not come over and pick up, which sadly I felt let the site down.

Would we go again no.

Yes it is a nice site. Very good for local and further away attractions ie National Trust What lets the site down is the toilet and shower. It does need to be cleaned at least once a day. It was not cleaned once during our recent stay. We will not be going again.

Excellent CL

Level grassy site with easy pitching, although the entrance would be a little narrow for large outfits. Some have been critical of the shower and toilet (there is only one); it may not be beautiful, but it's clean and functional - great value at £10/night. Easy access from the A12: head to Colchester from junc. 28 then take 1st L into Axial Way (sp local traffic).  Next L into Severalls Lane then Langham Rd, then R at T-junc into Straight Rd.  Site is on R just before next junction.  All these roads are good for caravans.

Visiting friends

Tight entrance for a large van, very good for visiting around Colchester in easy reach of lots of areas. Would go again but owners dog had free run of the site.
