Silly site prices. Off season and peak season

I have looked at the latest handbook to book a site.  Prices are not clear ... There is no guidance, as there was in the past, as to off season / peak season pricing.  Is all pricing now charged at peak season rates? Go online .. No mention of differential prices as you book.

So the only way I can find how much a site will cost is to go through the booking process, then I will get a price, then I can decide if I can afford it or not.

for Example

I looked at the Bladon Chains site ... Page 149. A bargain at "from £7.90 a night, for one adult and pitch.  It's open from 01 March.  I decided to book from 01 March ... Surely this is must be low season, my experience tells me that this is the case. But I wanted too  book two adults, so I wonder how much this will cost??  Perhaps, at the very most, my wildest guess, at the most 2 X £7.90.  Perhaps £16 a night.  No it can't be that much ... The site has only just opened, so it must be off season.  Proceed to book it  £179.20 for 8 nights. £22.40 a night for 2 people!! There is no breakdown of the pricing on the email confirmation.

In the wildest imagination of consumer rip offs, "I could not believe it"!  How can you get from £7.90 to £22.40 by adding one person.  How do I find when I can go by myself for £7.90?

This seems to me the most opaque pricing structure you could possibly get.  I thought transparency was the new watch-word in consumer relations!

I booked, but will be chasing this up to find out WHY., The silly price declaration. (Would it have been cheaper to book 2 pitches with one person on each?). I don't expect I will get a sensible answer over the phone tomorrow.... But I have given the 'powers that be' a chance to formulate a response, in advance.

Watch this space!

Rubbish.  Some years ago people were reselling electricity at vastly inflated prices.  UK Government stepped in and made it illegal to sell it for more than it cost.  As a way of still getting a profit (and avoiding the law) many suppliers, including CC Ltd, started including it in the base price.  Nothing to do with the EU.

As noted with the site you  mentioned on another thread @£5 per per pitch per day for a 10 amp supplysurprised

Justus2 -- Sites used to have meters, but some years ago The Blessed EU banned the 'reselling of electricity" so sites now have the inclusive/non-inclusive system. ie no meters, no slots.

You are obviously not referring to CMC sites. In 38 years I have never been on a Club site with metered electricity! Been on a few sites in Germany with metered supply. I do remember when electricity was charged separately. As many others have said the reselling of electricity is purely a UK law which the Club reacted to by charging an inclusive pitch fee.

Many CLs have metered leccy driven by over use by some.

Yes, it’s allowed providing they don’t resell it or more than it costs them.

I agree. The magazine used to be really for the caravan/motor home folk for years,  Now it’s disappointing, I quite liked Centre News with Rally lists. ( We visited some amazing places when belonging to North London Centre years ago... Southwold Denes on the beach in August, Knebworth House, Hatfield House, Broughton Castle, Henley by the River during the Regatta !! happy times) The worst part of the magazine are the pages of terrible adverts ‘We Want Your Caravan’ .... yes they pay for advertising but really, it’s now like some cheap rate paper.

I'm not sure where the magazine fits into this discussion but you can opt out of receiving it in My Preferences. It saves the effort of putting it in the recycling bin and you can still view it online if you feel the need.

Having read all recent comments on pricing etc I have to agree with the majority and add my voice of concern of the creeping cost increases across most / all CMC club sites in comparison to good CLs or independents. We are undertaking something of a UK tour next year and I am currently putting our itinerary together and have been shocked at the CMC club site costs for out of season booking - over £40 per night in early Easter and over £50 later in the summer for a motorhome and 2 adults. Good independents and the other club can be a few miles down the road and charge half this and include WiFi which the CMC want £4 a night for!! Not sure I will be renewing my membership if I can reinvest the money in cheaper sites that seem to be just as good!!!frowncry
