Caravans v. Motorhomes

By the way - I want to start a Discussion - not a War ! ! came to caravanning from canal cruising, and I am still marvelling over the extra flexibility in accomodation that a 7'6" wide caravan gives me over a 6'10" narrowboat - to say nothing of the fact that I can comfortably travel 200 miles a day instead of 20.   And without locks !   We agonised long and hard at the beginning whether to buy aCaravan or a Motorhome.   It looked to our inexperienced eyes that caravans seemed to be (roughly) half the price, but with twice as much useable room.   I also thought that narrow roads and going to supermarkets could present problems.  Now, eighteen years and a lot of experience later,  I cannot for the life of me see why people buy a motorhome.   Is it a fear of towing ?   Is it the extra 10 miles an hour on a motorway ?   I just don't get it.   It can't be towing;  so many are towing a car behind.  It can't be the higher speed limit;   over a couple of hundred miles (a reasonable day's distance), it's not much more than half an hour's difference - and we're supposed to be relaxing anyway, not tearing round the country at maximum speeds.   I'm genuinely puzzled.   Can someone enlighten me ?   (I might even buy one if I'm persuaded !)

I genuinely don't understand
