We are now the  proud owners of Alfie, an inquisitive, happy, twelve week old bundle of mischief. He is a labX(57), our vet thinks he has collie and maybe whippet in him as well as Lab. He's been with us for two weeks now and apart from a bout of kennel cough(frightening) he has now got a clean bill of health and can meet other dogs from this weekend. We haven't had a dog since we had to put our 15yr old lab down many years ago, as we didn't think it fair to have a dog and leave it on its own. We feel sure that we have made the right choice and I'm even taking him to sit in the M'home every day, he will never be left on his own as we plan to take him everywhere we go, He's already been to Drayton Manor with us and the two joungest grandchildren, (He wasn't allowed in the parkFrown ) Mrs bt says that I'm spoiling him, but you cant spoil a pup with too much love can you..WinkInnocentCool

BT - you're obviously as besotted with Alfie as I am with our adorable Meg and I wish you many happy years together.  We have never had a dog before - previously being cat people, but getting Meg was the best decision of my life.  She goes everywhere with me, is totally loyal and obedient (well, most of the time - she is a Cockapoo when all said and done!) and is so loving and gentle with everyone.

She loves caravanning and gets so excited when we are packing the van to go away and doesn't settle until she is finally put in her cage in the back of the car to set off.

Have loads of fun and enjoyment.Happy

You're right richard, Alfie is our world at the moment. Dogs do make a great difference to your life and give back just as much love that they receive, all they want to do is please you...Cool

What a gorgeous dog!

We keep thinking about getting a puppy, after losing our beautiful spaniel a few years ago. He loved 'vanning as much as we do.

Will work on OH tonight!

Keep trying Pliers, you know it makes sense...Cool

Only just spotted this, Brian.......that is a cracking looking dog!

I was interested in your comments about not leaving him behind anywhere....one of the things that stops us from getting one is that I wouldn't want him / her to be left and wondering how easy it is to fit that into our lives (after 38 years of just the two of us).

Anyway, it sounds like you both give each other equal pleasure and I hope that continues for you - I'm sure it will Laughing

Thanks Ian, yes Alfie is a little cracker, he's never left on his own, we even take it in turns to sit with him in the car while the other does the shopping, lets face it, who would leave a little baby alone? If you do take one on, I hope that you're as lucky as we are with Alfie...Cool

Again, thanks to all for your good wishes, here is an update on Alfie's progress.....

Not cried at night since the first night here,

Has not fouled the house for last two weeks, has an occasional excited leak.

He sits by the door when asked if he wants a "P" ro "Poo" if he needs to go.

He now sits every time on command,

He sits before he is picked up for a cuddle.

He sits and waits before eating his food.

Allows me or Mrs bt to take his food away while he is eating.

He stays in his basket when we eat our meals, no begging or crying.

Now pulls only slightly when out walking.

He is so intelligent that I'm sure he is now thinking of ways to get an extra treat out of me.

Settled very well in car and motorhome.

We can't believe that we have only had him three weeks, he's made such good progressSurprised...Cool
