The future

I have been a member for 3 years now, I don't think i can continue my membership for the years ahead. As a young family i find this club not exactly "family friendly". More to the point, I have been looking at the make up of the people at the head of the table, the council members and commitee.

We live in a diverse country and our nation is much better for that amazing diversity. Unfortunately the club seems to be a relic of the 70s, diversity seems to be something we as a club are unaware of. I'm sure they are all doing a great job but how can we go ahead without our club reflecting the make up of the country and the people they represent. Dont get me started on age groups being represented. I have no idea what ages everyone is, but i don't see young families represented and once again, they can't be ignored. Unless ofcourse the club is for elderly white people only. Again, this is no criticism of those people.

The easy answer is anyone can apply or put themselves forward. But the aptmosphere has to be right, it has to be friendly to people from other groups to be able to apply. Is it? What is the cub doing to encourage more diversity? Younger representation? It has to be more than just a token "anyone can apply". And this direction has to be from the leader, Mr Lomas.

On the basis of the above, I can't continue to be a member when it comes time to renew.

OK, I amend my words to say that to the best of my belief, every unit type can book any pitch type from those available. Better?🙄

Does it matter?

Unfortunately, it is only possible to quote one post, unlike in the old days when the chain of posts would show.

In terms of deciding how you can promote your Club and have a point of difference with the Caravan and Motorhome Club how do you achieve that? You can't compete on size, more often than not you can't compete on site facilities, you are not completely free to select your own pitch, they charge a deposit on bookings, your forum is even worse than this one, so you are left with planting doubt that something as large as the CMC can't be as friendly as the smaller C&CC? It's just a marketing ploy. Like others I have yet to see how the idea of it being more friendly translates into the experience you have on a C&CC site compared to a CMC site? Personal interaction with other guests on site is just that, personal. Some are happy to chat or say hello whilst others want to keep themselves to themselves. For us campsites are there to enable us to explore the area near the campsite. If I wanted more person to person interaction, beyond a casual good morning, I would join a rally.

There is a very distinct difference between the two clubs although we personally joined both clubs to expand our choice of sites.

You won't find a group of motorcyclists, a backpacker or two or teenage adventurers on a CAMC site. On a CAMC site a few tents will probably relegated to a bit of spare space and that's just a token nod towards anyone with other ideas about staying on a camp site....

Incidentally i've never bothered with the C&CC forum, I see some on here have. But they do have a lot of "interest " groups and cater more for individuals so I think they possibly have their ear to the ground on the more social side of things for those that enjoy that side of life. Their temporary holiday sites are a great invention.

That said I'm happy to use both clubs. (And now the emojis have failed, I did try to add a smile!!)

You won't see controllable showers on C&CC sites and so there are differences indeed.

As peedee says, they don't. And that leads to more booking problems.

Every weekend on C&CC sites has a minimum booking of 2 nights, whatever the season, unless you want non EHU, in which case you can book 1 night.

Non EHU fine for us. We wanted 1 night - which unfortunately fell at a weekend - in our motorhome in December.

No can do; grass pitches closed for Winter. And anyway, we don't allow motorhomes on grass in low season. You'll have to go on a hard standing and book 2 nights.

We are passing through, we don't need EHU, can we book a hard standing and not use the EHU?

No. You have to have EHU and book 2 nights.

Weather has been fine; not rained for ages; can we just use grass for 1 night?

No... and  repeat..... no matter how we rephrased the request.

Gave up and went to a nearby CAMC site.

It is the booking arrangements, restrictions and rules that, in my view, demonstrates the main difference between the clubs. On that issue, CAMC wins hands down for user friendliness and adaptability and I find it unfortunate that people complain about CAMC's system and want to drag it closer to that of C&CC.

Brue

I take on board what you say but I was trying to establish if there was any basis to them calling themselves the Friendly Club? The CMC have no real premis for being considered a tent camping Club. In the past they have only done it to serve conditions of a lease and because they don't really want to do it they put the tent pitches in some corner out of the way which is as close they dare come to discouraging tent campers. OK things have changed more recently with a positive encouragement of tenting on some sites. On some CMC sites the camping areas are quite nice. Blackhorse Farm is one example where the tents pitch in a separate, traffic free, area next to a toilet block. Given the constant backwards and forwards of vehicles on the average CMC site I think if I were a tenter I would prefer a nice quiet spot!

I am trying to envisage a chapter of hells angels rocking up on a CMC site, no doubt would have to be followed by a group of ambulances to take those with an attack of the vapours to hospital!!!

Unfortunately by its own admission the C&MC system is misused (check out the response to questions at the AGM) Stop the ease with which you can cancel and the system would be fine.
