You rotten lot! You might have told me it was wet in the Lakes before I booked a cottage in Braithwaite last night! wink

Seriously, though, we have been to the lakes most years since we've been married (and before embarassed). Our first camping trip together was in a tiny tent to Limefitt Park at Troutbeck - now I think very much more up market than when we stayed there, must have been mid 70's.

The thing about the lakes, as with most other tourist honeypot spots in this country, is that the crowds are usually dead easy to escape - just walk 20 minutes or so from the centres and you're often on your own or meeting fellow walkers. As for weather,  well, there's always some way of making the best of all but the foulest conditions! smile

Reliable second hand information WN. They are at Coniston Park Coppice and Troutbeck Head in Lakes. Friends of ours had to give up their van last year, and they love the Lakes, so tried a Glamping Cabin, the posh ones, at CPC. They loved it, had all they needed for a short break, and daughter and SIL took their little teardrop on a pitch close by. Not sure if your MIL would be ok on her own, but bathrooms are ensuite. Got facilities for breakfast and microwave meals, nice seating in and out areas. Bed might fold down, not quite sure. They aren’t cheap though for what they are, certainly not as good value as hiring a cottage.

We'd more than likely hire a cottage Ttda. Can't see the aged one going anywhere near a campsite.surprised

Have our eye on a 4 night break just after Easter, depending on if Mrs WN has had her jab by then. These youngsters always causing problems.

We have tentative plans for a CL with adjacent self catering suite we have used before. NY moors, so only hour and half from home. Can’t see it happening till after Easter though.

I don’t see it like that Dave, but certainly not the intention. The perennial popularity of the SW speaks to all it has to offer which includes a warm welcome from locals who are generally very welcoming to visitors, but do like to poke a bit of innocent fun at the antics of some of them now and then.

Come and see us, you won’t be disappointed by the welcome, but maybe the crowds 🥴

I have been to see you for many years in the late 70’s and early 80’ I was an HGV driver and used to do deliveries of rock salt to council highways depots and return home with either China clay or mackerel. The impression I got of the place then was that they always wanted to rip you off.

I'm carrying on the family tradition of visiting the Lakes, this is my gt grandfather on a visit to farming friends in Westmoreland. He came from a farm but worked for the railways and this was his annual trip. I can put up with the weather, it changes very quickly and I just like being there!

Over the last few days local news seem obsessed with asking people to comment on the ‘end of lockdown’.

All the hospitality businesses seemed to be saying the same thing, they want to open ASAP but more important was that this should only happen once there was reasonable certainty they could remain open.

Just catching up on posts on here.

Just your local news? I've always been an avid radio 4 listener so it's often news bulletins or in depth. It seems to me that as soon as any announcement is made the presenters and reporters are pushing the boundaries for more! I don't listen 'live' as often as I did, radio always on 😉, as I'm trying not to scream at it...........

Yes we need to start opening up BUT slow and steady not some hell for leather, off to hell in a handcart, stop start way. The virus needs our help to spread, it can't do it all by itself. At the moment it looks like lockdown has/is doing some good but numbers are still high - more testing??? More in hospital, because they're better at treating it??? Not been enough time to evaluate and know about the vaccine generally plus those that have had from the beginning were the ones likely not to be out and about mixing on a daily basis.

Can't say I agree with the handling of it all, but the media definitely don't help 🤐🤐. Of course business will want to prepare for opening, even if its only a good clean and rota type things. Look what they did and spent last time to comply........

That’s a bit of a time span to hold a grudge DT, early 80’s, nearly 40 years. 😂 Things do evolve you know......😁
