The Club have released more details of the new Booking System here

There are still finer details still to be arrived but the link (thanks Harry) sets out how the new system will work.

I have closed the previous thread on when we will get details of the new booking system and opened this one to allow comments specifically on the new system rather than discussing what they might be.

Ha, reminds me of a time at Godrevy when I'd put a cone on a patch of road I'd just filled. I heard a weird noise and went out to see a motorhome with the cone wedged under the front. Frantic waving didn't do it so I ran to my car to give chase as the cone could've flown out causing damage. I managed to flag them down a couple of miles away just before they got on the A30. They were oblivious and the cone needed serious first aid!!surprised

I then had to refill the hole in the roadundecided

I've been on and off here all day (waiting for storage customers). It's interesting reading peoples thoughts. I'm glad everyone's talking about ANPR's but don't get excited, I'm still waiting for a drive over motorhome pointundecided. I think my cone has a few years to go yetwink

N1805 posts "am happy to pay a deposit by Credit Card and balance on arrival again with a Credit Card in reception. If it causes a queue so be it as it is my preferred choice."

If you are happy to pay the deposit (electronically) by credit card well prior to arrival, and are happy to use the same card for the balance, why would using that same card at home, prior to arrival (exactly as the deposit) be any different..

ie....why the need to use the same card in two different ways?

Maybe some of us would prefer to use a different card for the final payment?

I don't know how others operate their budget, but we have several cards with differing statement and payment dates, and varying credit limits.  When I retired, we reduced the limits on most of the cards, so now like to spread things over the cards so as not to exceed our limits on any one card, and stagger payment dates to our advantage.

It is bad to have all your eggs in one basket, good to have a few different cards in case one is compromised.

Last summer, we got a call from the CCC on the day we were due to arrive at our next site......the payment had been declined, should they try again?  We knew that as far as our spending was concerned, there was no reason for  a decline, so said to try again.  The result was the same, so we gave them a different card number and all was fine.   A call to the card provider gave no answers, in fact they  claimed no payment had been requested, all a bit of a mystery.  Just as well we had more than one card.

To me a credit card is just a very convenient method of payment. I never have used them to spread payments. I work on the principle that on the day I spend the money, it is gone from my account. We only have two CC and one debit. Online spending is restricted to just one of the cards.

CAMC already have bank account numbers for direct debit membership payments etc so site payments will just be an extension of this activity or similar for most.

One method we never use now to pay by is our debit card, as the one and only time we ever did use it was to buy camping cheques, there was an extra charge to use a  credit card.  A couple of months later there was fraud on our account via the debit card.  Coincidence?   Maybe.

All but one of our debit cards are kept hidden away at home, the one we carry is only used, very rarely now, for cash withdrawals.

Unless I have missed it I haven’t seen anything about how the deposit or balance would be collected. Using existing information would certainly simplify the process, but I assume would require another direct debit mandate, to cover frequent variable payments. Personally I would like it, although others might prefer the credit card route.

No idea really Steve, I suppose assumptions might be rendered invalid?! wink

PS I try to avoid details of banking and money on a personal level.
