Hi we  are new to caravaning and next year we have booked for the first time  the hosted winter sun holiday at Alannia Costa Blanca arriving early February , staying for 3 weeks . We just dont know what to expect and would apreicate some feed back and experience  from members who have been in previous years to this destination.

Typically how many people go ?

What is the typical weather like ? Rain, Sun Wind etc?

Is there much road noise from the AP7 motor way?

Who are our hosts  ?

What at the 90M2 pitches like, we have booked hopefully Field E ?

What is the indoor pool like in Feb ?

What DTV chanels are available ?

We look forward to your comments

Regards Geoff & Sue

Afternoon

We over wintered on that site for 5 years Geoff. Back then the rally was held by the other club and was run by a guy we called 10% Bob! it was full every winter with around 300 outfits (the site has 1500 in total). It's still in the same area at the bottom of the site (called E block). Pitches are all 90m2 unless you have a big outfit where you can rent a double one. We were on one of those further up the site, pretty massive at 180m2! There's also a large clubhouse at that end.

There is some noise from the motorway but it's not that intrusive and not all day.

When we were there there was a tv hook up on the 16 amp electric bollard which gave 5 English channels (I think) Also there was wiring for the installation of paid for wifi. Reception send a local company to put a router in your outfit, back then it was 25 euros a month.

The indoor pool and spa, along with gym and a daily animation programme is great. You have to book the pool and spa (1 hour slots).

Don't forget a Friday night curry at the Bombay in Catralsmile

Ask away if you need more infocool

JK

There is a Facebook page for the Alannia Clubbers where those who overwinter post. I have done a couple of winters January into February there but not for longer than 4 weeks each time and have enjoyed it. The FB page is >here< and it looks like Bob is still The Man

JimE who posts now and again is another one.

Hi Guys, Apologies to Geoff but this is a site we have considered a couple ot times and wondering if anyone has stayed outside of the rally dates?

We are looking at a visit in April/May 2023 and as there are clearly some site frequenters out there thought it worth asking!.

Thanks

Yes I have also stayed on this site outside the winter holiday dates, think it was in June. There is no difference in the facilities available, the outside pools should be warmer and the site itself still lays on entertainment for guests. Your pitch fee will be higher and it maybe covered as it gets warmer but everthing else should be the same cost.

We have visited Alania Costa Brava on three occasions, each for 3 weeks when a rally was organised by the other club. It’s a first class site with excellent facilities including spacious pitches, modern facilities blocks with underfloor heating, lots of different leisure activities, a well stocked supermarket, a hairdressers and a large restaurant, bar and snack bar. When we were there, there was also a visiting “Pollo Asado” van, a snack trailer and a sunday car boot sale.

As regards the weather, we have experienced heatwaves, snow, rain and extreme wind – you certainly need to peg an awning down with storm straps as strong wind gusts can arrive unexpectedly at any time.  As a general rule, the temperature rises with the sun and goes down with it, but you can usually live a pleasant outdoor life in shorts as long as you have a fleece handy first thing in the morning and as the sun sets. It can get quite hot in the middle of the day.

As far as the pitches are concerned, we have a MH which is 8.2m with the bike rack and found the standard pitches plenty big enough for us plus a 2.5m wide awning and a kitchen tent. You can hear the road noise during the day, but it didn’t bother us and we live in rural Suffolk. If you are staying in Block E, a bike would be handy as it’s nearly half a mile to reception and the supermarket.

We liked the locality and Catral (1.25 miles from the site entrance) has a good selection of supermarkets, shops, restaurants and cafes. The town also has a weekly market and there could also be a fiesta, depending on when you are actually there.

Have a great time.

We were at Alannia (previously Marjal) in Feb 2017, Jan 2018, Feb 2019 and just before the Covid lock-down in Feb 2020.  We might be going again in 2023 but haven't decided yet.
