Hi to all , I have been looking at a 2018 discovery sport but in the details from the dealer it says under the heading derivative 2015 , so was this car manufactured in 2018 or 2015 ,

Thanks for all replys

My guess is that the model was launched in 2015 but manufactured in 2018. It maybe if you're buying new that there is an updated model now launched, different trim or slightly refreshed look and this is the dealer's obtuse way of defining that you purchasing the old model. So it will be a 2018 car but not a current one, if so you should get a big discount.

Just a guess from an old cynic.

Ps A quick websearch reveals that there is a updated version out this year!

If you have access to the VIN plate of the car, the 10th of the 17 digit VIN number will tell you when it was built. You can enter the VIN in a VIN decoder to check.

Have a look on the LR forums before you buy? lots of unhappy owners about and one on here recently.

Early Oil dilution, Brakes made out chocolate and rattles in the bodywork to name but a few of the issues..........

Disconcerting. It's telling me that my VIN is invalid.

Yes, sorry, that was a link to an American VIN decoder site. For some reason it worked for my BMW but, as seems likely, it may not for other makes or models not sold in the USA. One would therefore have to search for a UK or at least a European VIN decoder site if you want details of your car.

Perhaps this one will work for you: https://uk.vin-info.com

Definitely do your research around reliability before plunging in. Friends of ours have stuck with LR brand and their car has had three extended bouts of work under warranty. Big issues as well, not trivia. They took out extended warranty to avoid huge bills later in cars life.

2015 is the year they (Disco Sports) were first introduced .. since then they have had a very subtle tweak - inc the engine.

Whats the Reg number .. as surely this would give an indication of the year..?

Also looks like a whole new revamp is on the way too  .... https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/land-rover-launch-heavily-revised-discovery-sport-summer

Don't necessarily listen to the detractors. Over 3 years ownership and very happy. Lovely relaxing car to drive and has pulled Bailey Unicorn and now a Coachman VIP faultlessly. Everyone who travels in it comments on how pleasant it is.

Hi all thanks for all your input it's made me think and I have done a bit more research and looked at reviews and asked other owners some I know and some I don't and I have had more good reports than bad but I think you get that with all car makers.

Thanks again
