Freelander & horsebox

What's a Freelander capable of towing?

I was overtaken on the motorway today (on my way back from my so called imaginary CC site) by a Freelander that had 5 people in it & towing a horse box with 2 horses in it. No idea of the weights a Freelander is capable of towing, but I'd imagine a horse box & 2 horses would be heavy! It was pretty down on its rear suspension too & didn't look particularly stable.

I thought you'd have looked it up, MM. 🤔

I halfheartedly did but don't know how many flavours of Freelander there are or specifically what weights the horse or horsebox were ..... it certainly didn't look a good set up.

What's a horse weigh? A ton? x 2 plus 3/4 ton for the trailer

the average horse box trailer weighs 700kg ,the average horse weighs 500kg (450kg after its had a dump)

max a free lander can tow is 2000kg

so best put the horses on a diet !!!!!!!

All figures taken from my friend Google

If we are talking 'Light Horses' each under 500kg and so probably legal

There’s a lot of dependents. Which model Freelander? How big/type of horse, design/build of horsebox? I should think two ton is absolute maximum, in which case, if it’s a bog standard horse trailer, carrying two 16hh t bred crosses, then it’s over the limit. And towing something that moves around, albeit not very much, is a whole lot different to carrying same weight of inert material.

Our old Disco towed a big trailer and two horses relatively easy, but you could still feel them moving around on the back. Our Freelander one wouldnt have been capable. In fact come to think of it, it wasn’t capable of a great deal really, a case of style over usefulness.

So you agree with me .... it looked way over because it most likely was.

They were not cart horses but ....

And how heavy was the  very loaded landysurprised and how many cars have according to the sales blurb a 2000kg tow limit
