Does driving an automatic completely or cut down clutch burn when towing/reversing a caravan?

This question is aimed at all caravan tuggers with an automatic. Do any of you have any regrets? Would any of you consider going back to using a manual gearbox? Any other comments are quite welcome.

Wouldn't consider another manual at all 😉 You only have 2 feet so why would you want 3 pedals? 😁

I loved my Senators (12 & 24 valve) .... if only Vauxhall still did RWD 🤔

mine was the 24 valve, what a brilliant towcar but as a downside could have cost me my licence!embarassed (speeding with or without the caravan !!).Had to go in favour of a trooper after getting well stuck in the mud.

Over all my years of towing I have never had the need for a clutch replacement - not even when my last car reached over 9 years old.  I have now changed to an automatic, but have always had movers on our caravans and used them extensively.  My thinking is that you don't pay out hundreds of pounds for a mover, and then not use it to keep the car's workhorse loading to a minimum.

shouldn't get clutch burn anyway with a manual unless you ride the clutch continually or the plate is down to rivets. frown

I've had clutch burn with at least three cars, with no issues later on, all on nearly new cars.

I'm on my first auto, now 3 years old and have no intention of buying manual again, the wife feels the same way.

In fact we are awaiting a dsg Tiguan due soon.

So why did you persevere with 3 pedals for so long & what made eventually you see the 2 pedal light? I've mostly driven 2 pedal car since my 30's

My kids drove two pedal cars from the age of around 6.
