Motorhomes - servicing whilst touring

We tour a lot more than we did when we had a caravan.  We would like to be able to empty and fill our tanks without the need to stay at a club site.  Most club sites have a suitable service point for grey and black waste  and drinking water points.  Why do they not let members on tour use these facilities ?

All the motorhomers I meet pay for one night on a site now and then - to empty their waste, to dump their trash, to re fill their tank with fresh water, to have long showers, to re charge their leisure batteries,  to do their laundry , and then go somewhere for free again. That's certainly the general rule in mainland Europe.  Can you not do that in the UK?

C&CC will allow this on their sites for about £7 for a 3 hour stay. It may be for members only. C&MC do not allow the short stay facility on their sites and reasons have been given.

To my mind, rather than pay £7 for 3 hours, I think a full night's stay represents better value and makes far more sense. It doesn't have to be a club site - others do exist.

We wild camp quite a lot when fishing. I would  not think of using  club facilities to recharge without incurring a cost. As stated above we would book in to a site to shower, empty waste etc and expect to pay a normal fee. Anything else is a cheek.

So are you saying that for your membership fee, it should allow you to use site facilties to fill up with water and empty waste and toilet ,without add charge,    as There are not any cc sites that have a means of charging for that facility yet , maybe a direct e-mail to the sites dept at EGH will gets a response as this question has been asked before    ,or join the ccc who do have this facilty

I have only wild camped for a few weeks with a caravan when fishing in Scotland and like Fisherman was happy to use an occasional site or use a public toilet in a country visitor centre to empty and fill.

If I had a motorhome with tanks I would consider it reasonable to pay £7 at a CC site for all to use showers and washing machine facilities, dump tanks etc. Anything else I would consider a damned cheek.

So in essence you are asking for those who are paying for nights on a site and contributing to the cost of water, maintainance and cleaning, to subsidise those who are not paying for anything. I don't see how that can be fair. Personally I wouldn't dream of it.

"We would like to be able to empty and fill our tanks without the need to stay at a club site."

Did you mean to say "pay" instead of "stay"?  That is what it sounds like. You actually don't need to stay on a club site, there are others.  And it really isn't that terrible to stay on a site from time to time.  I for one can't understand what objection anyone in your position can have to paying for a night on a site in order to fill up with water, dump water etc.  We've met plenty of MHs on the continent who wildcamp, but they all use a site at regular intervals to take and dump water, loo, washing etc.

Every one seems to think I'm suggesting these facilities are provided free of charge.  Please reread my post, I didn't say that at all.  A lot of people suggest stay over for one night, but this isn't always possible due to full sites.  All I am suggesting is that those sites with the facilities make them available to Motor Homers who are touring.  Incidentally there are places that have no facilities (e.g. Pubs) that are used by Motorhomes so don't assume that we wild camp all the time.  We are all different in what we are after and I have the freedom to choose, just as you do.  I pay my subs and have done since we got our first van back in 1972, I think it is very reasonable to ask for access to a facility that exists already, and not to be forced into staying overnight to get it.

The club disagrees with you, r4, and reasons have been stated on this forum before. They included the fact that traffic flow on site would be increased due to MHSPs usually being sited fairly centrally on sites and possible congestion at the service points.

As I pointed out earlier, C&CC do allow, and charge for, this facility. Have you joined that club? Have you enquired at commercial sites if you can avail yourself of their facilities? Alternatively, why not book ahead for your night halts. It's what most of us do. Enjoy your touring but don't, please, consider yourself a special case. We're all in this together.
