What's every body's thoughts on travelling with the toilet ready to use, or after a stopover? we've always travelled with everything empty, but heading to Cornwall shortly and wondering if it would cut out a lot of hassle having it ready to use when children decide they need the toilet! and also after our overnight we'd be quicker away if we didn't empty till we got to our final destination, thanks

Our motorhome loo is always ready for use but the OH does complain if I don't stop.  Can't understand why as she has no problem with train, airplane, ship or boat toilets whilst in motion undecided - no pun intended laughing.

perhaps you didn't switch off the fasten your seat belt sign?

Bit dangerous though if she is is mid motion and you have to very abruptly stop the vehicle's motion?

A full Thetford  flush tank holds 7 or 8 litres of water, and since a litre of water weighs 1kg, travelling with a fhalf ull one will only make a small difference to you weight and balance setup.

But we've had blue liquid leaking out, of C200 & C250 models, making a mess and even staining our carpet on one occasion. So we are only likely to travel short distances with more than a couple of litres in the tank. Far more troublesome is the fact that there's little in the holding tank, to keep the flushing micro switch dry, there being a direct passage between liquid and switch within the tank. This unhappy marriage between water and electrics has an increased chance of occurring the more flushing liquid you are carrying when on the move.

Replacing a corroded C200's micro switch, which is a bit overpriced, is within the capabilities of most DIYers. Ease off the fairly large moulding, which is held in place with non setting mastic, from the top of the tank, to gain access. It'll take quite a bit of care to replace the mastic evenly so that your tank is fully waterproof afterwards. The C250, suffers a different problem if it gets wet, corroded connections on the circuit board just underneath the flush button occur. Peel off the self adhesive membrane on top of the tank to access it.

With regard to the waste tank, its full capacity is around 17 litres, i.e. 17kg, which may cause an unnecessary imbalance if you tow with it full.

Rather her than me. Even using it in some pull ins on normal roads it shakes the van a bit as HGV's pass. Must be really bad at the side of a busy motorway.

On the OP, I always recharge ours before travel. Although only travel with a few litres in the flush.

l forgot to say we would not stop on the motorway we pull off and find convenient stopping place, we are lucky when we enter the the motorway we have two motor way facilities within 18 miles of each

Well, what interesting replies. We are new caravaners and was wondering as to what to do, fill up or not at home, before setting off. I think the general opinion is, it’s ok but not a lot of water in the tank.\so I will stick in a litre or so. Thanks everyone!

Our loo is emptied before leaving site and primed for use. Water is from main tank, no separate flush tank. We always have water.
