If you get a puncture on your car do you have it repaired or automatically scrap it and fit new?

The better question is - if you were buying new, would you accept one that hadn't been used but had been found to need a puncture repairing at time of fitment.

For me David that would depend. If I had been compelled to drive any distance on the tyre when flat I would scrap it. In fact I did just that on Monday of this week.

Use the spare until a new one can be fitted, safety is paramount.

I would think any tyre repair depot ;would examine  the tyre before any repair is carried out,  to check for sidewall damage ,if the tyre had been driven flat

The case that is what the OP is about may well not have been near a tyre depot? hence not having been sealed  ,and as posted the puncture may well have happened in transit from the manufacturer to the dealer,  ,and the dealer "mended?" the puncturesurprised

If the owner has proof of a previous inadequate repair then I would take it up with their dealer

I agree but, I prefer to make my own decision JVB and consider the cost saving over new ad repair to be insignificant in the overall scheme. Maximum saving about £100. Cost extra of replacement probably adds £10 a year to overall running costs giving the rarity of punctures for me.

Not all tyre and repair outlets are reliable or thorough in their actions.

Yes I have a full alloy spare and it makes life easier for the odd puncture.

i think were missing the point either the dealer or manufactor thought it would be ok to repair it with out even telling the owner that is how low regard they think of us when my wife range  rover went wrong the dealer came and collected the car left her another car when it was returned it was fully valeted and a bunch of flowers  when our caravan as a fault we have to return it to the dealer at our exspensive and time off work as many dont except vans at weekends then keep our fingers crossed we get it back before your next break not even a replacement while yours is in for repair

What spare?

I had a puncture in Grrmany and was recovered to a nearby MB dealer who repaired it and we went on our way. Unfortunately spares are becoming a thing of the past, my car has different tyres front rear and even if this were not so ,  the space where a spare should be has been taken for a tank of that " blue stuff"
