Major Issue

Chapel Lane Club Campsite

We stayed at this site in June as a two night stopover as we travelled up country. I had noted on reviews mention of travellers using it but hoped this wouldn't be a problem. We did see upon arrival that there were indeed a group on site. We had no issues during the day but on our first night there was a brief period when loud music was being played-thankfully this did not last too long. However on our second night from about 1am to gone 3am there was serious disturbance with vehicle movements and extremely loud music. Sleep was impossible and I can only liken it to be in the middle of 'rave'. I assumed, incorrectly, that the wardens would at least make some attempt to deal with the problem-they did not. In the morning I along with others spoke to one of the wardens. He told me that they would not turn out at night to deal with such issues as they finished at eight-he did however confirm the source of the disturbance was the travellers. He indicated that there were ongoing issues at the site with them so as you can imagine we will not be using this site again. In my 16years as a member of the club I have never experienced such a negative issue as this. I have of course emailed the club.

Not for us

Chapel Lane Club Campsite
Stayed here one night and would have moved on had we not already had a long journey. As previous reviewers mentioned this is not like any other Club sites we have stayed on. The middle is a jumped up car park, storage facilities and many empty pitches apart from at least 10 units containing travelling families. During our stay they filled 3 paddling pools, moved their sun loungers to the middle of the main access road to enjoy the sun and one woman was even standing on her roof cleaning it. Children were roaming about unattended apart from woman bawling at each other between units. No peace and quiet here until after 10 o’clock night. It seems this is commonplace on the site as Caravan Club allow this. We will not return and unless the CAMC apply the same standards here as they do on the rest of their sites think it will only get worse.

Unlike other CAMC sites.

Chapel Lane Club Campsite
The site is unlike other CAMC sites I have visited. They have a large number of seasonal pitches occupied by residents many from the travelling community who often have 2 large outfits on a single pitch and transit type vans. Whilst we didn't have any issues on the site and it was generally quiet, seasonal pitches do take away from the appearance of the site and the vibe. There is also an area where people park up and leave their caravans hitched to their cars, right in the middle of the site - all very odd! The location is great for visiting Birmingham and the access is easy for those towing or with large motorhomes. The toilets were clean and tidy and site generally well maintained. Warden was friendly upon arrival. Site was half empty on a sunny June weekend so others must be feeling the same about these seasonal pitches on site

Five Day Stop Over Close to Britain's Second City

Chapel Lane Club Campsite
We stayed for five nights at this generally level site towards the end of March 2024 on a fully serviced pitch. The location of the pitch was immediately in front of the facilities block that was the only one in operation probably due to the comparatively few pitches in use. Unfortunately there are no alternative WC facilities available if the block is closed for cleaning and the other block is taken out of use. The staff are friendly as one would expect and the check in was easy with plenty of choices for a suitable pitch. A busy road passes one side of the site but the noise is limited to this side only. Being only a couple of miles from the M42 Southern route around Birmingham I suspect that the site is used as a staging post between the West Country and the North by travelers wishing to break their journeys and it seems that there are hard standing areas provided for this use. The site offered an excellent opportunity to visit Birmingham City Centre by using the 'Park & Ride' free parking facility just three miles away from the site at Whitlocks End Station and the cheap adult off peak return rail fare of only £5.80 which takes you into Moor Street station directly next to the famous Bullring shopping centre. There are many attractions in the city with museums and the revitalized canal area. We found a good 'chain' pub/eatery at The Pack Horse, Drakes Cross, only 2 miles from the site. There are lots of rural walks on Public Footpaths in the area but months of rain had swamped many of them. In drier months of the year there are so many choices with one starting right outside the Church at the site entrance. All in a ll a good place to visit in its own right.

Peaceful and a good stop-off or short stay site. A little scruffy.

Chapel Lane Club Campsite
We stayed for a week during the Cruft's Dog Show. The site is peaceful, well located and easy to access. However, there were some pitches that were not being kept well by the occupants, with big gas bottles, storage units and large bins kept exterally on the pitch. The areas of tarmac used for large units and the extent of visible storage added to this, leading to a very poor impression for us and a feeling of overall "downmarketness" (if such a word exists!). Not our favourite CAMC site, I'm afraid. Sorry CAMC.
