Situated high above Exeter at the top of Haldon Hill, Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite in Devon is attractively surrounded by bright heather and gorse moorland. The location of the campsite allows for superb views of the rolling countryside and an unparalleled feeling of space and calm.

For many, the first stop on their visit to the area will be historic Exeter and its Cathedral Close, found at the very heart of the city. Excursions here offer the opportunity not only to absorb this famously historic site but also to indulge in a little shopping as well as a wide choice of restaurants. Visitors to the Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite seeking the best views Dartmoor has to offer will be delighted with a stroll up Haytor and Canonteign Falls, the highest in all of England. Also nearby is Haldon Forest Park with a range of walking, cycling and mountain bike trails as well as a Go Ape course for the adventurous. The campsite also gives you easy access to scenic walks along the River Exe to the Quay. A car boot sale is held down at the racecourse every Sunday, so head down for a weekend bargain.

Even though the site is often used as a quick stop over, many members often enjoy it so much, they extend their bookings and take in the excitement of the stay for longer!

Never again!

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
Overnight stopover 25/6 March 2024. Frankly, unless you are a racing enthusiast, stopovers are surely the only reason to stay here. We arrived halfway through a race in the pouring rain. The booking info from the Club is copious but failed to note that this was a race day. There are other race courses we’ve stayed at that would not take my booking on a race day. This site is exposed, has many puddles in the rain and has a mediocre standard of facilities. In my opinion the wiring of the hand drier in the boys’ room probably wouldn’t meet appropriate safety standards. At breakfast time there was a site-wide power outage. We left before it was fixed. One specific note: the turning off the expressway southbound is VERY tight and requires extra care and slow speed. Easy to overshoot too. Summary: we can find better.

Exeter Racecourse visit September 2023

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We use this site as a stopover on our way to Cornwall. Even after wet weather in August (some puddles still existing on 2nd September) the Site Managers, most pleasant, had kept the grass cut and the site in a more than acceptable condition. Indeed, they were cutting the grass on a few pitches to ensure the site is well groomed. A word of caution for visitors from the North, when going up the steep hill (A 38) and seeing the Racecourse site turning to the left, watch your speed as the turn comes on you quickly and it is a sharp turn.

Caravan show

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
This is our first time on this site.Fortunately there was a small caravan and camping show on that weekend We arrived and found the wardens to be very helpful, friendly and welcoming.Nice large hardstanding. The toilets are a little tired but so super clean and showers hot.Weather poor meant we couldn't take advantage of the walks Good motorhome facilities for emptying tanks and elsan. It would have been nice if there could have been a few basics like bread and milk on site The turn off the bypass for the racecourse from Exeter, gives you no real warning,so one to look out for We will return :)

Perfect site

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
I have stayed here many times as this is an ideal location to visit and explore Devon. As always the wardens are very helpful and full of good humour. The facilities for waste and water are located in an ideal location with easy access plus away from pitches. I look forward to returning here whenever I am in the area.

Relaxing

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We have just returned from our 4th trip here this year We love it! We don’t live too far away - half hour at most but we love to just pack up on a Friday night and go for the weekend, and it’s so quiet and relaxing. The Wardens are very friendly and I like that they are now enforcing the 1pm rule! We find the facilities perfectly fine, we use the showers and the washing up area. We take our dog and have walked around the racecourse, there are also shorter walks if you prefer. Huge car boot sale in a nearby field on a Sunday!
