View and BookEscape to the natural beauty of Shropshire. Head to the north of the county to the historic village of Whixall and join us for unrivalled countryside splendour and our special marina – truly a hidden gem. Surrounded by uninterrupted fields and framed by mighty oak trees, Whixall Marina is situated on the Prees Branch of the Llangollen Canal. We have five canalside camper van/caravan bases available with electric/non-electric options and a dedicated shower block alongside the pitches.
We’re very proud of our picturesque marina and the facilities we have to offer visitors. Our on-site café, open seven days a week, boasts an outdoor terrace and is the perfect spot to enjoy a snack, a meal or coffee and cake. Our picturesque village green, located next to the café, offers a grandstand seat to sip tea or coffee and take in the tranquil pace of the marina and its beautiful wildlife.
Our resident swan ‘Sid’ who has been enjoying life at the marina for over 20 years, is seen parading his brood of cygnets! On our doorstep, we have a wealth of natural resources, ideal for walkers and their four-legged friends. A path from the marina takes you directly onto the towpath of the canal where you can enjoy peaceful walks among some of the country’s finest scenery. A short stroll takes you to Whixall Moss, part of the world-renowned Fenn’s, Whixall, Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve and the habitat of several rare species. A ‘Mammoth Tower’ provides a birds-eye view of this exceptional and memorable landscape, and is definitely not to be missed. Further along the canal, ornithologists can enjoy a visit to the Charles Sinker Fields Bird Hide, named in honour of the passionate conservationist who recognised the unique nature of the meres and mosses of Shropshire, and who campaigned for their protection. Charles Sinker Fields is one of the best sites for wildfowl and wetland birds in North Shropshire, home to curlews, lapwings and more dabblers and waders.
Just a few miles away you’ll find Hawkstone Park and Follies - a woodland fantasy of caves and cliffs where paths twist and turn, rise and fall, and almost without fail reveal something unexpected around every corner: dramatic cliffs, towers monuments, tunnels and passageways. A little further afield, there are many picturesque Shropshire towns and attractions to enjoy. A visit to the historic county town of Shrewsbury is a must with its famous castle, Tudor centre lined with half-timbered houses, together with a host of independent shops, restaurants and bars.
On the edge of the town, the National Trust’s Attingham Park offers acres of parkland, miles of walks, a vast organic walled garden and a well-preserved mansion with treasures galore. Ironbridge, the birthplace of the industrial revolution with its world-renowned museums and Abrabram Darby’s bridge, opened in 1781, perching high above the River Severn, is also within easy reach.
If you just want to relax and take in fresh air and countryside beauty, it doesn’t get better than at the Marina.
